Red Tomato Apple Chile Sauce

A very, VERY simple to way to add some fresh, warm *kick* to your meals.


  • 1 cup chopped gala apples
  • Dried arbol chiles (or other red chiles/chile flakes), adjusted to your heat preference:
    • Mild heat: 1 chile (1/4 tsp)
    • Medium heat: 2 chiles (1/2 tsp)
    • SPICY heat: 3 chiles (1 tsp)
  • 1/2 cup red tomatoes
  • 1 cup water

Special equipment: high speed blender or food processor

Prep time: 10-15 minutes
Yields: 2 cups of sauce


  1. In high speed blender, blend all ingredients together until smooth.
  2. In small saucepot, simmer the tomato-apple-chile mixture on medium heat for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  3. Enjoy warm by the tablespoon as a dish-topping condiment, or as a warm applesauce on its own if you like. Stores in refrigerator for up to 3 days.
